三、教學目標 Objectives
本課程將帶領學生認識英美文學主要作家的代表作品，透過閱讀短篇及中篇小說，讓學生認識不同類型風格的作品及其作者，讓學生理解各作品的特色及重要性。除閱讀經典英美小說外，學生將有機會閱讀非英語作家之英譯作品。導師將帶學生細讀作品文本，並透過學生在課堂的討論及分享，培養學生的文學詮釋能力並提升跨文化能力，同時期許激起學生對文學作品的興趣並理解當代各種重要議題。
This course is designed to familiarize students with the works of major English and American writers. Through reading selected short stories and novels, students will be guided to appreciate graceful styles and rhetorical strategies, as well as historical backgrounds and cultural contexts.
Students will have a chance to read some of the works in English translation by non-English speaking writers. Meanwhile, students will be led to have a close reading of each work with class discussion and sharing. This course aims to help students to develop literary competence in understanding fiction and improve their cross-culture ability. Most importantly, this course expects to arouse students' interests toward literary works.
　
四、課程內容 Course Description
●整體敘述 Overall Description
本課程首先將專注於介紹各作品的作者及重要寫作背景文化及寫作特色，再帶學生細讀文本內容。每堂將依上課進度閱讀、分析文本的重要篇幅，為讓學生更了解個作品的涵義，對於作者的個人經歷及作品的年代背景影響也將會有詳細的介紹。同學需老師的指示預讀部分作品內容，並在上課的時候進行討論及分享，本學期將著重於同學的課堂討論及分享，將由同學進行分組團體報告、介紹不同作品及與同學討論問題。每次作品討論結束後，同學需於moodle上做簡單的response(giving your personal thoughts/explanation/answering the questions)。
