三、教學目標 Objectives
本課程為英美文學入門課程,介紹學生閱讀英美文學世界主要作家的代表作品,藉由閱讀小說、詩及戲劇,引導學生對西方文學世界有個初步的了解。本學期將帶學生理解詩與戲劇,學生除試著理解作品內涵、作者的寫作風格特色外,也同時須了解歷史背景及其文化內涵和隱含意義。期望同學藉由課堂講解及討論去體會不同作品的意義。
This preparatory course aims to introduce students to the world of English and American literature through selected representative works of major authors. This course helps students to explore and understand western literature through reading novels, poems, and plays. Students are required to learn the different writing styles and features of each author, appreciate graceful styles and rhetorical strategies, and understand historical backgrounds, cultural contexts, and indicated meaning.
四、課程內容 Course Description
整體敘述 Overall Description
In this class, students are encouraged to express their opinions inspired by the readings, exchange ideas with peers, and try to introduce the reading by themselves. With the instructor's guide, several key themes and backgrounds will be introduced. Students will read the first few stories with the instructor's guide and five feedback after each work is introduced. Later on, students will do some of the following report with assigned reading. Different supported materials will be provided in class as well, including films, news, and visual aids.
