This course 1) examines the uses of Greek and Roman mythology in western literature -- by reading Greek and Roman versions of ancient myths and tracing the transformations and interpretations of those myths in literature; 2) provides an introduction to the ancient (classical) literature, beginning with the Homeric epics, The Iliad and The Odyssey, and ending with Cervantes’ Don Quixote; 3) to promote critical and analytical thinking about the Biblical traditions and their applications in western literature. Goals for students include: developing the ability to read literary texts carefully, closely, and enjoyably; developing an appreciation of literature as a source of moral and ethical insight and the ability, plus the confidence and the pleasure to interpret it orally and in writing. |

●整體敘述 Overall Description Even though this class operates primarily, for the first semester, in particular, through lecture, class discussions are vital to how this class will proceed well. For this matter, your active attendance and participation in class are expected -選課同學第一週務必出席,了解課程內容跟英文負擔程度。也請勿多次遲到或早退,超過二次以上未到課或繳交分週作業(除非跟老師溝通過合理的原因,並也付出努力趕上進度),期末總分會扣30-50%。 -課程進方式將包含老師講解授課(Lecture),小組討論(Discussion & Seminar),上台報告(Oral Presentation),課堂預習筆記及小考(Pre-reading Notes & Quizzes),期末繳交文字報告為主(Final Written Report)。 |
