三、教學目標 Objectives
「用統計說謊很容易，但沒有統計要找出真相很困難」。統計學是用來蒐集資料，利用統計方法與技巧來觀察與呈現問題，以及依據統計分析所得到的結果，提出可能的解決方案。本課程內容包含:資料的蒐集，資料的描述，資料的推論(機率)，抽樣，統計估計，假設檢定，以及相關分析。在搭配的資料分析課程中，同學將學習如何使用SPSS分析民調資料。修習本課程後，修課同學應該具備破解濫用/誤用統計的能力以及將量化分析應用在社會科學領域的能力。
People need to make decisions in their lives and specialized fields. For example: Is a new medicine effective? Does the public support same sex marriage? Is socio-economic status related to political participation? There are many ways in making decisions. Statistics is a subject that helps people make decisions based on numeric information. Understanding statistics can improve decision quality and reduce decision errors. The goals of this course are: 1. Understanding fundamental concepts and theories in Statistics 2. Obtaining basic skills of data analysis 3. Being familiar with statistical software (SPSS) 4. Applying quantitative analysis in social science.
