三、教學目標 Objectives
本課程的揉合過往傳統的中國外交史和西洋外交史兩課程為一體，以歷史重大事件時間為序鋪陳。期望奠定學生在國際關係領域中的歷史基礎，有助於未來進一步學習國關理論和因果分析。
目標在銜接大一的「戰後國際關係」與大四的「中華民國外交政策」課程，讓學員們能有一個整體的外交史知識體系。
This course combines the traditional Chinese diplomatic history and Western diplomatic history into one, and is laid out in the order of the time of major historical events. It is expected that the students will have a historical foundation in the field of international relations, which will help them to further study the theory of international relations and causal analysis in the future.
In addition, the aim of this course is to provide a link-up between the freshman course “Postwar International Relations” and the senior year course “The Foreign Policy of the Republic of China”. All combined together, these courses would allow students to grasp a holistic system of knowledge base concerning diplomatic history.
四、課程內容 Course Description
●整體敘述 Overall Description
本課程範圍包含西洋與中國外交史。課程時序範圍始於歐洲打完拿破崙戰爭的1815年，並介紹清朝在鴉片戰爭前所面對的國際局勢。上學期的課程時序介紹至19世紀末，以中日甲午戰爭作為結束。下學期的課程則從中國在甲午戰爭後為起始，同步對照歐洲俾斯麥外交體系的建立，課程持續依時序整理中西外交大事件直到二次世界大戰結束與冷戰的形成。
授課過程將穿插國際關係理論分析，加強學理和歷史事實的相結合，教導學生從不同理論解釋中尋找合理事件因果解釋的方法。學生將可從課程內容中，學習養成思考從不同角度解讀歷史事件的的思辨習慣，以及獨立判斷每個事件是如何（how）發生，以及為何（why）發生，最後將造成何種影響。
