三、教學目標 Objectives | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
請參考英文版本如下 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
As an extension of the lessons learned in the previous semester, the second semester of English Writing (II) continues to help you communicate with greater competence and stronger confidence through English writing by training your proficiency in major grammar points and essential paragraph writing skills needed for both academic (primary) or career (supplementary) success. Closed attention are also directed to the expansion of your vocabulary, the cultivation of an active learning attitude, and the productive uses of writing tools and related online resources with the hope to expand the one-year course into a sustainable pursuit for ongoing and continuing improvement of your English writing ability.
四、課程內容 Course Description
●整體敘述 Overall Description English Writing (II) adopts an interactive approach to language learning by providing you with ample opportunities to “interact” with your instructor, your classmates, and, most importantly, with the writer in you. Major class activities include: (1). Group discussions; (2). Outline presentations and peer reviews; (3). Guided exercises and editing; and (4). Required writing assignments in various organizational structures (process-chronology, cause-effect, division-classification, comparison-contrast, and argument), culminating in at least two fully revised papers plus 4~5 exercises and assignments (both in-class and take-home) the entire semester. Teaching Approach & Course Requirements: English Writing (II), as you should know by now, is taught with the underlying assumption that you are here with a clear understanding of the need to improve your English writing ability. The No.1 course requirement is therefore for you to constantly demonstrate that understanding through your class participation and writing assignments. As you know, the class uses no designated textbook. Handouts edited by your instructor, when necessary, will be emailed to you one week prior to the lesson begins. As in the previous semester, instead of expecting your instructor to go over the textbook chapters and handouts line by line in class, you are required to preview each weekly lesson and get yourself well prepared for raising/answering questions and participating in class discussions. In this semester, however, you are required to present the outline for the 2nd writing the assignment you decide to write, and a reviewer needs to be designated to critique both your outline and 2nd writing assignment. There will be no mid-term examination while the final will take the form of the self-evaluation with which you should be familiar by now. IMPORTANT NOTES 1. Further course requirements and assignment guidelines will be specified in class. Assignments failing to observe the requirements and guidelines will receive NO grade. Attendance is thus of vital importance. Skip classes at your own risk. 2. Attendance is of vital importance. Please feel free to skip classes at your own risk as one un-notified absence will be penalized with a 10-point reduction in your final grade. 3. All required assignments should be typed, not hand-written. 4. Assignments marked with more than three basic-damaging errors will be graded but NOT REVIEWED. 5. Assignments submitted after the deadline will be graded but NOT REVIEWED. |
