三、教學目標 Objectives
本課程之目的在於讓學生具備從句子到段落的基本英文寫作技巧。複習既已習得之文法知識後,學生將學習如何將多個意念在不僅文法正確,且長度較長的複合句構中呈現。學生也將接著學習如何將句子組織成表達清晰、前後連貫、題旨一致的段落。
The objective of this course is to prepare students for basic English writing skills from sentences to paragraphs. After reviewing grammar knowledge that the students already possess, they will learn to express more than one idea in not only grammatically correct, but also longer, compound and complex sentences. Students will go on to learn how to organize effective sentences into clear, coherent, and unified paragraphs. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. use grammar correctly and effectively, understand different sentence patterns, and put their ideas into sentences; 2. organize sentences into paragraphs; 3. review and revise their paragraphs into well-structured, adequately developed paragraphs. To reach these goals, students should receive ample practice in a variety of sentence structures and paragraphs and be encouraged to engage in a variety of in- and out-of-class activities including reading, drills/exercises, journal writing, learning portfolio, drafting, revision, class discussions, assignments, etc.
四、課程內容 Course Description
整體敘述 Overall Description
本課程為全學年之系必修課程,目的在於讓學生具備從句子到段落的基本英文寫作技巧。上學期複習學生過去已習得之文法知識,並指導學生如何以文法正確的各種句型來表達思想,接著帶領學生學習如何將句子組織成表達清晰、前後連貫、題旨一致的段落。下學期則配合深度的閱讀來提升寫作能力,繼續強化段落寫作之練習,包括敘事(Narration)、描述(Description)、舉例(Exemplification)、細目分析(Analysis by Division)、程序分析(Process Analysis)、因果分析(Cause and Effect)、分類(Classification)、比較與對照(Comparison and Contrast)、定義說明(Definition)、論說(Argument)等不同文體,學生將從中熟悉完整的寫作步驟與歷程,從寫作前的預備進入正式寫作,接著校正修改、同儕互評、教師回饋等等。授課內容將聚焦於句子結構練習、寫作格式與歷程、各式主題之段落書寫,以預備學生未來繼續從事進階的學術寫作。
