三、教學目標 Objectives |

The purpose of this course is to introduce you to western canonical works of the Greek, Roman, and medieval traditions. We will explore the ideas and viewpoints they have in common, as well as considering their differences. You will learn to analyze the important themes and motifs of the literary works. |
四、課程內容 Course Description |
●整體敘述 Overall Description Twice a week, in the first hour of the class, you will take a 5-10 minute quiz. We will have student presentation before the lecture. Afterwards, we will divide the class into small groups for discussions. |

平時測驗 | | 10% | You will have a 5-10 minute quiz in the beginning of the class. There will be 10 quizzes in total. There will be no make-up quiz. However, if you miss any of the quiz, you may take the eleventh quiz near the end of the semester. | 出席 | | 5% | | 期中考 | | 25% | | 學期報告 | | 25% | You will write an essay of approximately 500-600 words. Please use 12-point Times New Roman font. Please DO NOT do any outside research or copy paste from the internet; I want to hear your voice. If you plagiarize, you will receive a zero for your paper. VERY IMPORTANT: use specific references to the text to support your argument. | 課堂口頭報告 | | 20% | Each group will be given 20 minutes for their presentation. Each person in the group will be required to speak for approximately 3 minutes. The TA will time you during the presentation. Please be conscious of time; if your group is substantially under or over time, your grades will be affected. Before your presentation, please consult with the TA to be sure that your content is appropriate.
| 作業+課堂討論 | | 15% | In advance of each class lecture, you will be given a question that is related to the theme of the text we will be discussing. We will have 13 lectures; therefore, there will be 13 questions. You will be required to answer at least 8. When you have completed at least eight questions, you will receive full credit for the homework requirement of the class. You may choose which weeks you’d like to answer, but you must answer at least three questions before the midterm exam week. Please plan carefully. Things do happen (Wifi goes down, work from other classes is due, personal lives get complicated), so don’t plan to answer all the questions at the end, as I will not be sympathetic if you cannot get them done. This is the reason that you don’t have to answer all 13; it gives you a cushion for busy weeks, so use that cushion intelligently. Please post your answers on the public discussion section on TronClass for your classmates to read and comment on by the Sunday before the class meets. Please note, too, that in order for your answer to receive credit for the week, you must post it on time; late posts will not receive credit. I will read your answers, but will not have time to give individual feedback. Instead, I will gather your answers and they may be discussed in class when appropriate.
